Director General/CEO

Mr. Segun Okeowo is the institutional architect and driving force behind the Environmental Practitioners' Institute of Nigeria — a co-founder, pioneer builder, and now its Director General/Chief Executive Officer. With over three decades of progressive experience spanning environmental consultancy, marketing consultancy, management consultancy, human resources development, and entrepreneurial leadership, Mr. Okeowo represents a rare combination of institutional vision and operational excellence that few Nigerian environmental leaders have achieved.
He holds a B.A. (Honours) in Geography from the University of Lagos (1987) and an M.Sc. in Geography and Planning, specialising in Hydrology and Remote Sensing, also from the University of Lagos (1991). His academic formation in the spatial sciences equipped him with an analytical toolkit that has proven invaluable across decades of environmental practice.
Before founding EPIN, Mr. Okeowo built a diverse professional portfolio: beginning as an Audit Trainee with Kunle Oshinaike & Co. (Chartered Accountants), progressing through senior roles at Olu Aleshinloye & Co. — where he served as Audit Senior, Tax Audit Supervisor and Training Manager — and later serving as an Associate Consultant with Sina Babatunde & Co. and Executive Director at Marketing Intelligence and Support Services Limited. This cross-sectoral experience gave him the financial discipline, management rigour, and strategic breadth to conceive and build world-class professional institutions.
His institution-building credentials are unmatched in Nigeria's environmental sector. He co-founded the Environmental Practitioners' Institute of Nigeria (EPIN), and was the Principal Founder of the Pan African Environmental Research Initiative (PAN AFREI) and the Association of African Environmental Practitioners (AAEP) — a trilogy of institutional creations that have fundamentally shaped the professional environmental landscape across Nigeria and the broader African continent.

His professional affiliations span multiple continents: Fellow of EPIN, FAEMI, FAERI, and FAAEP; Member of the Canadian Association of Environmental Management (CAEM); Member of the National Association of Environmental Professionals — NAEP (USA); Fellow of the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (FNIMN); and Member of the International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS).

As Director General/CEO, Mr. Okeowo oversees the overall executive management of the Secretariat, drives the implementation of Governing Council decisions, and leads EPIN's strategic partnership development and international liaison activities. As Honorary Secretary to the Governing Council, he is additionally responsible for institutional governance, constitutional compliance, Council records, and legal affairs of the Institute.
